Writing Intensive Curriculum

TCNJ’s Writing Intensive Curriculum

The intellectual and scholarly growth of all College of New Jersey students involves the development of confident identities as good writers who can communicate clearly and effectively to an array of audiences for a range of purposes.  All students, therefore, are required to take three writing intensive courses during their tenure at the college.  The first of these is First Seminar, taken in the fall semester of the first year;  in the sophomore or junior year, students take another writing intensive course of their choice, inside or outside of their major, and then in the senior year, a writing intensive capstone course in the major.

In addition, some entering students may also be required to take WRI 102, Academic Writing, to help better prepare them for the demands of their writing intensive requirements.  Click here to find out if you should register for this course in the Spring semester of your first year.
